Management and staff of the National Youth Service Corps as well as
serving Corps members nationwide are mourning three compatriots, who
died in Nasarawa State last Sunday.
Two of the deceased, Oguntola Wasiu Babatunde (NS/16B/4044) and
Danjuma Jamil Salihu (NS/16B/0175), died as a result of drowning in a
river at Assakio, where they had gone swimming.
The third deceased, Memunat Ahmad Yarwa (NS/16B/4280), died from
complications during childbirth. She was a Batch B, Stream II female
corps member posted to Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia.
It was learnt that the duo, whose bodies were found floating on the
bank of Assakio River area on Sunday, were not skilled in swimming.
Investigation indicated that the river had claimed several lives of
indigenous farmers in the area over the years.
